We need to acknowledge that we live a country in which most people are scientifically illiterate.  That’s just a sad consequence of living in a nation in which public education is being systematically destroyed.

Where we need to draw the line is electing lawmakers who aggressively reject science, or know precisely nothing about it. If you’re a distributor of plumbing supplies, no one’s going to be hurt regardless of how little you learned in fifth-grade.

The same can’t be said about our legislators.
