It will be interesting to see how today’s Trump supporters will come to be regarded by history, provided, of course, that Trumpism is eventually revealed to be anti-democratic authoritarianism and is ultimately rejected as a valid form of government in America.
Regardless of what happens, however, the worst that happens to today’s Trumpers is that they are remembered as having supported “a bad man with good ideas.” There will very little shame in this, and “stink” is a terrible word to use here.
The concepts of tight borders, environmental deregulation, denying healthcare to those who can’t afford it, bans on abortion, Christianity in schools and government, two genders, the opposition to wokeism, and the superiority of the white race is bound to have enduring appeal to a significant number of people–regardless of what happens to the former president in his criminal prosecution and political career.
As shown here, we live in a society that glorifies the very worst traits of the human animal and seems to be on a rocket ride to its own destruction.
Ignorance has terrific value to the billionaire class. If you’re filthy rich, you really don’t want a nation full of people learning that pure market capitalism is, by its very nature, exploitative, or that the consumption of fossil fuels is destroying our planet’s capacity to support life.
The Trump administration and congressional Republicans are exceptionally good at focusing the MAGA base on problems that don’t exist.
What bathrooms should trans people use? Well, before we work ourselves into a frenzy, let’s ask ourselves if this is an issue that is really harming the good people of this nation.
Keep in mind that 60% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck and are struggling to afford groceries.
