The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approved a modified version of Otter Tail Power’s Integrated Resource Plan, which lays out the utility’s plans for electricity generation and investments over the next 15 years.
The commission also approved Otter Tail Power’s proposal to take a new approach to operating the Coyote Station coal-burning plant in North Dakota by utilizing “Available Maximum Emergency” status for the approximately 70 MW share of the plant that serves Otter Tail Power’s Minnesota customers.
The Clean Energy Organizations (which includes Fresh Energy, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Sierra Club, and Clean Grid Alliance) commend the commission’s decision to approve the carbon-free additions.
“Fresh Energy applauds the Commission for approving a portfolio of new renewable and battery resource additions that are necessary for Otter Tail Power’s energy transition,” says Fresh Energy’s Isabel Ricker. “The utility needs to take a more ambitious and future-focused approach to carbon reductions and aligning its electricity resources with the state policy of Minnesota.”

We live in a country where tens of millions of idiots believe every word of this.

I met a guy today from a rural part of Central England–“nothing but farms and pubs,” as he put it. His father was an epidemiologist working for the United Nations, and so, as a boy, he lived all over the world and grew up largely in developing countries that suffered from horrific diseases.
He and his wife had the conversation one would expect from such people:
- Why are we so content to ignore climate change that is ruining our planet?
- Why are people so indifferent to the suffering of others?
- How is it possible that billionaires expect to live well here on Earth while 99.9% of us suffering with wildfires, devastating storms, blistering heat, losses of landmasses, and desertification?
- At the end of the day, is money really that precious?
Obviously, not everyone thinks this way, but to be in something of a “lovefest” for just a few minutes was a great relief.
