I wouldn’t say that the MAGA folks “live on a different planet,” even metaphorically. I’d say that they’re desperately in looking for data points, regardless of how out-of-date or clearly inapplicable, that confirm what they already believe about political life in the United States.
When it comes to Eric Trump, of course, we have rhetoric that passes from the extreme to the outrageously stupid. Is Trump and his administration saving God and Christianity in America?
Perhaps the reason this has such an outrageous ring to it is because it’s categorically false. The percentage of Americans who identify as Christians, about 90% in 1975, has been declining steadily since.
We’re All Looking for Data That Makes Us Feel Good, but MAGA Wins the Prize
The only qualification necessary to be a member of Trump’s cabinet is absolute loyalty to the president. Any of the other usual requisites are actually regarded as negatives: a strong resume, relevant experience, intelligence, training, honesty and the like.
To be fair, this is precisely what Americans voted for in 2024, and about 30% of the electorate continues to support this stupidity and criminality.

Sure, there have been many other people who have lived according to the beliefs expressed here by philosopher and American revolutionary Thomas Paine, but their numbers don’t begin to compare with those who think of themselves as patriots of the country of their birth and adherents to the religion they were assigned by their parents.
What a terrible shame. It’s easy to imagine a world of peace and harmony, but it sure seems an incredible challenge to get there. This is especially true today, on a planet that is increasingly led by fascist dictators, and a population where ignorance, nationalism, and hate is heating up by the day.
