I’ve mentioned my fondness for A Word a Day, presented by the noted linguist Anu Garg. Not only itis good for the vocabulary, it includes a “thought for the day” which is generally quite interesting.
Here’s today’s from -Ivo Andric, novelist, Nobel laureate (9 Oct 1892-1975)
From everything that man erects and builds in his urge for living, nothing in my eyes is better and more valuable than bridges. They are more important than houses, more sacred than shrines. Belonging to everyone and being equal to everyone, useful, always built with a sense, on the spot where most human needs are crossing, they are more durable than other buildings and they do not serve for anything secret or bad.
I thought this was particularly meaningful, given the range of hostilities present around the world.
China owns less than 1% of the 3.6% of U.S. farmland that is owned by foreign governments and investors.
Some would say:
Stealing their miniscule position is imperative.
Forget about World War 3, the Epstein files, and Trump’s criminal psychosis.
Let’s get on this, before their holdings grow to 0.04%.
Is It Right to Take Back the <0.036% of All U.S. Farmland Owned By China?
I know there are people hoping to see human civilization destroy itself, to welcome in the apocalypse as forecast in the book of Revelation. In fact, one of my co-coaches in the days our kids played soccer had this precise belief.
When I explained that my life’s work was to halt the destruction of human society, he chastised me: “Oh no Craig! The sooner life on Earth comes to an end, the sooner Christ will return to summon us all to Heaven!”
I wasn’t impressed with his thinking.
… All this is coming to a head.
