Here’s Bobby Kennedy’s assertion on our society’s resistance to change. He certainly nailed something important, but I would argue that what we’re looking at now, several decades after his death, has a far uglier and meaner look on its face.
The vast majority of Republican voters appear comfortable being led by a vicious criminal who is doing his level best to overthrow American democracy and replace it with a dictatorship featuring mass cruelty, the rejection of science, racism, fanatical Christianity, the demise of the middle class, and the abandonment of rule of law.
They are both the results of the human need to make sense of the world around us and to unravel life’s great mysteries.
The idea of a calm presentation of the news may have a certain surface-level appeal, and, at most points in history, that may have been completely appropriate.
But what about 1933 when Hitler was coming to power in Germany?
What about 2026 while Trump is destroying American democracy?
If you’re an American and you’re not infuriated, there is something profoundly defective in you.
When I first saw this, I thought it was a joke, but then I realized that means this sincerely.
The president’s approval rating is in the low 30s, as most Americans are disenchanted, to put it kindly, with his corruption, dishonesty, and incompetence.
If I were a Republican running for election, the very last thing I would be promoting to voters is any association whatsoever with Trump.
