The Department of the Interior today announced that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is advancing nine solar projects on public lands that could potentially power nearly 2 million homes.
“The Interior Department is playing a pivotal role in helping tackle the climate crisis, boost the clean energy economy and provide communities across the nation with clean, reliable energy,” says Department of the Interior’s Dr. Steve Feldgus.
“With today’s advancement of nine solar energy projects on public lands, we are taking a significant step towards these efforts and President Biden’s ambitious clean energy goals.”
The 5.35 GW Esmeralda 7 project encompasses seven proposed utility-scale solar facilities with BESS on approximately 118,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands near Tonopah, Nev. The BLM is opening a 45-day public comment period on the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement and Resource Management Plan Amendment for the project.
The BLM is also opening a 30-day public comment period on a draft environmental assessment for the Elisabeth Solar Project near Dateland, Ariz., located on 1,400 acres approximately 65 miles east of the City of Yuma within the Agua Caliente Solar Energy Zone. If approved, the project would produce up to 270 MW of electricity and up to 300 MW of battery storage.
As of this month an additional 70 utility-scale clean energy projects are in process by the BLM throughout the Western United States.

Trump and Our Post-Truth Nation
Eventually, many Trump supporters will come to realize that the meme at left is a hoax, that their leader fell for it, and spread it to countless people. But it would be interesting to know how many care.
We live in a post-truth society, where the fact that something is simply invented out of thin air means little if anything. In fact, if you’ve ever listened to Trump give a speech, you’ve seen that most of what see says is clearly false.

Socrates: Citizen of the World
Until recently, we assumed that most Americans had the aspirations that were prevalent when we were young: get a good education and continue to learn until the day you die. Live a life of honesty, fairness, intelligence, and compassion. Perhaps, pick role model who exemplifies what you think of good human being, and emulate their thinking and behavior.
As we watch and listen to Trump supporters, we’re learning something tragic: a huge swath of the American population has no interest in any of this; in fact, they could call it “woke crap.”
Some say that the reason we have Trump in the White House has little to do with characteristics of Trump himself, but rather with those of the 77 million people who voted for him.

Who’s Coming for your Neighbor — Or for You?
In case you’re wondering about it, it won’t be Trump or JD Vance, or any of the congressional Republicans who carts you away. As suggested at left, it will be some rando who used to pump your gas or your weigh your broccoli at the grocery store.
As we have seen in all fascist regimes, it’s not the schoolteachers or veterinarians or philosophers or cardiologists who round up “undesirables” and send them away to their deaths.
Not a bad reason to support public education.
