There was a time in the recent past at which what Bertrand Russell predicted made perfect sense, and was, it seemed, in the process of coming to fruition.

At this point, however, it appears that humankind has hit a hard limit as to its capacity to replace religion with science in  terms informing its thinking and behavior.

And, as resources become more scarce due to environmental collapse, it’s understandable that the human race will become even more tribal, more superstitious, and less reliant on fair and objective methods of managing our affairs and solving the problems that we face as a species.

The “Flat Earth” Theory

This issue was solved long before our journeys into space began 65 years ago.  Yes, the spherical shape of the Earth was proved 2000+ years ago by the ancient Greeks, but understanding that requires some fluency with high school math, which many Americans lack.

I’m referring to telephony, that spread around the globe in the late 19th Century.  Someone in say, South Carolina, can call a friend who lives on the West Coast and ask about the sun’s position in the sky.  Try to explain the discrepancy if you believe the Earth is flat.

Why would we need 24 different time zones, each 15 degrees apart?

How exactly DO Canadians View the U.S.?

At left we see an extremely generous viewpoint on the United States as we Americans are seen from Canada.

I have to think that a more honest statement on the topic would be, “You have a tumor, but you voted it into office.  We never would have thought you were so stupid and mean.”
