The Biden administration enacted the strictest-ever rules for tailpipe emissions but also handed the auto industry a significant concession by giving them more time to comply, a recognition that the transition to electric cars will take longer than hoped.
This conforms with the sense most of us have about the transition away gas and diesel in favor of electric transportation: it’s informed by a warm (but not red hot) consumer demand, as well as fierce resistance from the fossil fuel industry.
Speaking of demand, I saw a bumper sticker on an older Ford Mustang the other day that read, “This car is a hybrid. It burns gas and rubber.” The rednecks of the world are using this opportunity to ridicule the suffering on the 8 billion citizens of Earth who are experiencing floods, droughts, loss of land mass, etc.

What this British fellow fails to understand is that here in America, Trump supporters:

- Think it’s great that Trump’s cabinet is full for Fox News “journalists” and that we’ve renamed a federal government department without the approval of congress,
- Don’t know that the war in Iran is illegal, i.e., that it’s a collection of war crimes,
- Don’t understand that costs, financially and militarily, of waging the war, and
- Believe that either we’ve won the war or that it’s going smoothly under Trump’s excellent supervision.
Their standard of truth is: If Trump says it, it’s true. If it’s unflattering to Trump, it’s a lie, cooked up by a radical left communist who hates America. Critical thinking is for woke sissies.
Without doubt, stupidity is part of Trumpism, but it’s only a part.
Meanness is also essential. People with any real compassion for others don’t have what it takes to be a member of the MAGA base.
