Sadly, very few young people can name (let alone look up to) a single living scientist.
Ultimately, this is due to our society’s fixation on money. Rock stars and football quarterbacks enjoy vast media exposure and draw the attention of hundreds of millions of adoring fans.
Our scientists may be developing the next pandemic vaccine or technology that will mitigate the climate change that threatens to bake our planet, but they do so in near total obscurity. Their work may save millions of lives and change the world for the better over a long period of time, but there is nothing sexy about it whatsoever.
Isn’t there enough hatred in the world without proactively generating more?
Could this be wrongly attributed to Atkinson?
Here’s an idea:
Give all descendants of slaves free college, with stipends, like they do in northern Europe.
Within a generation, we’ll have millions of young, highly educated black people, contributing to the work force at much higher levels than they are today.
We all admit that the MAGA base is composed of the most ignorant of Americans, but one has to think that even these people are losing their patience with Trump and the onslaught of catastrophes he’s bringing to the United States.
