FWIW, I agree with Michael Foot, Labour Party Member of Parliament in 1980s England. I would add that this whole matter is even simpler now, 40 years later, as the rich have gotten far richer and the poor far poorer.
Taxing billionaires puts essentially zero financial strain on them, while ensuring that no one dies of a treatable disease, no one who wants an education is denied one, and no one in need of food and shelter lives starving on the streets.
It’s the way the entirety of the rest of the developed world lives.
Make it so.
As shown here, we live in a society that glorifies the very worst traits of the human animal and seems to be on a rocket ride to its own destruction.
Ignorance has terrific value to the billionaire class. If you’re filthy rich, you really don’t want a nation full of people learning that pure market capitalism is, by its very nature, exploitative, or that the consumption of fossil fuels is destroying our planet’s capacity to support life.
The Trump administration and congressional Republicans are exceptionally good at focusing the MAGA base on problems that don’t exist.
What bathrooms should trans people use? Well, before we work ourselves into a frenzy, let’s ask ourselves if this is an issue that is really harming the good people of this nation.
Keep in mind that 60% of Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck and are struggling to afford groceries.
