Austin Smith, a former Republican state representative in Arizona, has pleaded guilty to charges for forging signatures on his 2024 re‑election campaign petitions. He admitted to submitting nomination papers with names of deceased individuals and other forged entries. The plea agreement calls for probation, a fine of $5,000 and a five‑year ban on seeking public office. Meanwhile, Smith had served as a senior director (and briefly strategic director) of Turning Point Action, the 501(c)(4) advocacy arm of the conservative youth group Turning Point USA and resigned from that leadership role when the allegations surfaced. Through his dual role as lawmaker and conservative organizer, Smith’s case underlines questions of campaign integrity and the responsibilities of politically active organizations.
I would have thought (and hoped) that election fraud would merit some jail time.
The vast majority of Americans are thrilled that the midterms brought us the “blue tsunami,” but there are a couple of things that don’t really add up. You may have noticed that:
The U.S. wants a random alcoholic Fox News “journalist’s” head on the plate for having orchestrated the war in Iran, when all he was doing was pursuing his loyalty to Donald Trump, the man who started this asinine and grossly illegal war.
There seems to be no effort to cause Trump, who tried to violently overthrow the U.S. federal government, to face accountability for his treasonous acts.
What’s up with the media? Is there a concerted effort to avoid the facts? What’s the problem with honesty, and telling Americans the truth? Isn’t this the clearest instance of gaslighting in our history? Are we now trying to pretend that Trump never existed?
If such a landslide victory against a would-be autocrat had happened anywhere else on Earth, that traitor would be in prison now, in most cases facing execution.
I was hoping, now that we have midterms behind us, that the morons trying to convince voters that the U.S. is a socialist/communist country would come up with a new package of s*** to spread around.
The country with the highest percentage of ultra-high net worth individuals? Norway.
