Here in sunny California, we’re preparing to elect a U.S. senator to fill the vacancy left by Dianne Feinstein.
If you’re looking for a little comic relief in your day-to-day life, check out the article linked above, and note that former baseball star and conservative Republican Trump supporter Steve Garvey is among the contenders.
He’s the top GOP contender for the job, not that this means much, given that he’s running in a state where Trump lost to Biden by 29 points in 2020.
God only knows what approval rating Trump has at this point, now that he’s facing 91 felonies stemming from crimes he allegedly committed during his presidency and since he left office.
Dismal, yet amusing at the same time.

The Fine Art of Appealing to Idiots
The fascism of the early 20th Century taught us all the key elements of the playbook (see below).
In particular, when a leader identifies an enemy like Islam as a grievous threat and pledges eliminate it, one might think that such a position would generate suspicion, rather than adoration.
No so here in the United States, where tens of millions of uneducated Americans would happily elect Trump an absolute leader for life, in the way of Putin and Xi.

Raising Children
In addition to all the sane, honest, and compassionate people in the U.S., I’m sure there are many Trump supporters who would agree.
Rich people may love the tax breaks, but very few of them want their kids to become criminal sociopaths.

Law Schools Are Leaning Left, But What Does This Mean?
There many be several explanations for this trend, but the most obvious is that the political right in the United States stands for lawlessness, i.e., the opposite of what law schools teach.
The Trump administration is essentially a criminal organization. You won’t find many intelligent and honest people, e.g., the professors and students in this setting, who support things like pardoning (and then rewarding) the thugs who stormed the Capitol and beat up law enforcement personnel.
