Born Michelle Robinson in 1964, she grew up in a working-class family, instilled with the values of hard work and education. Excelling in academics, she attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School, paving the path for a successful legal career. It was at Sidley & Austin, a Chicago law firm, where her destiny intersected with Barack Obama, a young summer associate she mentored. Their romance blossomed, culminating in marriage in 1992.

Michelle’s career transitioned from law to public service. She championed community development and advocated for educational opportunities. As Associate Dean of Student Services at the University of Chicago, she established their first community service program. Later, she led the University of Chicago Medical Center’s community outreach efforts, significantly increasing volunteerism.
