One reason that gun laws are so difficult to enact here in the U.S. is Americans’ belief that offering “thoughts and prayers” to the victims’ families is a worthwhile response to having their little child’s body blown to bits by a psychopath with an AR-15.

How do they get away with stupidity like this?

To me, it depends.

If the person seems intelligent enough to be able to hold a thought in his head that opposes his current beliefs, I’d actively encourage the discussion.  Otherwise, I’m out.  No need to raising someone’s temper for no reason or gain.
