As I mentioned in a post yesterday, American politics has reached a point where one of its two major parties, the Republicans, seems to have become aware that it offers nothing whatsoever that offers value to its base.

Its platform, which consists of banning abortion, unlimited gun rights, cutting Social Security and Medicare, environmental devastation, the rejection of science, withdrawing support for Ukraine, and, most of all, kowtowing to a sociopathic criminal former president, has turned out to be entirely unappealing to most voters.

Its policy of stopping whatever the Democrats want to do has also ceased to register at the polls.

How is it possible that it has taken so long for all this to emerge on the political landscape?  I have no clue.

Why Progressives Are Succeeding

Profound Nihilism?

Normally, “nihilism” means the belief that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value.  Trump was elected by mean-spirited idiots, but they could hardly be called “nihilists.” For example, they believe very strongly in white supremacy, the dismantling of the federal government, saving people from the lethality of vaccinations, etc.

Now, there is a secondary meaning to the word, i.e., those who reject established social systems.  In this sense, I suppose they are indeed nihilists, in that they reject lawfulness, honesty, human rights, truth, science, tolerance, and compassion.
