Shawnee Mission Park has a new art sculpture disc golf course featuring nature-inspired public art made by local artists.

The 9-hole course features art along the way, shady paths, and is great for beginners.

Known as the Art Nine Disc Golf Course, the unique course is the first of its kind in the region and possibly the United States.

The artwork is inspired by nature and the park’s native flora, fauna, and wildlife.

The sculptures were created by Amie Jacobsen, Scott Diven, Tim Mispagel, and Jake Balcom as a project of the Johnson County Parks and Recreation Department (JCPRD) Public Art Program.

The program commissioned local artists to create site-specific, permanent sculptures for the new disc golf course.

The artwork includes:

“Twlight Refuge” by Tim Mispagel was inspired by a delicate paper wasp nest

The project was funded through state and local federal relief funds.

The golf course is situated next to the Shawnee Mission Park 18 hole disc course.

Shawnee Mission Park is located at 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee, KS.
