Should Speaking English Be Required to Live in America?

To the reader who sent me this: no one’s offended.  We know we live among racists, and being offended by a racist doesn’t help anything.

Perhaps the very greatest thing about being an American is what’s etched at the base of our Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Notably, the poet didn’t mention speaking English.

The folks who were here before North America was populated by immigrants, i.e., Native Americans, didn’t speak English.  Nor did the immigrants themselves: the Italians, Germans, Danes, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, or the rest of the Asians.

Maybe it’s time to rethink the bigotry? You’re a bigger person than this.
