Adam Smith and Capitalism

This from late 18th-Century Scottish economist Adam Smith, ironically called the “father of capitalism.”

If the word capitalism means anything, it’s that it’s OK for us to ignore the needs of others.  Note that, ever the years, almost the entirety of the developed world has adopted what is variously called social democracy and democratic socialism.  In essence, citizens agree to that people, especially the wealthy, will pay higher taxes, but that government will provide valuable services, including free healthcare and education.
