ACORE Statement on House Changes to the SPEED Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. — ACORE issued the following statement from CEO Ray Long after the House made changes to the Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development Act (SPEED) Act:
“ACORE commends Chairman Westerman on his leadership in advancing legislation that seeks to modernize our permitting laws to meet the current needs of our economy and national security. In the next four years, we need to add the equivalent of 15 New York Cities’ worth of electricity to the grid. Durable, bipartisan, technology-neutral permitting reforms that support and advance the full suite of American electricity resources and the necessary expansion of transmission infrastructure to get that electricity from where it’s generated to where it’s needed are essential to meeting that challenge reliably, securely, and most importantly, affordably. Unfortunately, the changes made on the House floor are a disappointing step backward from achieving these objectives.”
