10 Sustainable Pajamas & Loungewear You’ll Want to Live In All Day Long

Published

on

If you’re in need of some new ethical pajamas or sustainable loungewear, these brands with ultra-soft sleepwear, sweatshirts, and joggers have just what you’re looking for to rest and relax more soundly.

It’s no secret that about a third of our days are spent sleeping in nightwear — and these days working from home, well just about my entire day is spent in loungewear, too.

So it’s essential to find the right set of feel-good eco-friendly pajamas and loungewear clothing that’s made responsibly from toxic-free, natural fibers. This guide features some of my favorite eco brands with conscious sleepwear and casual-wear using materials like organic cotton and TENCEL and producing their pieces in ethical factories or with fair trade artisan cooperatives.

Price Range Key for this guide is $ = Under $60 | $$ = $60-110 | $$$ = $110+ for separates

This article features affiliates and partners. As always, we only feature brands that meet high standards for sustainability that we love — and that we think you’ll love too!

P.S. Check out this guide for sustainable lingerie and this one for organic underwear brands.

1. Printfresh

Best for: Vibrant prints you won’t find anywhere else

The 100% organic cotton pajamas from this woman-owned sustainable loungewear and lifestyle brand make me smile with their whimsical prints. From “meowing mermaids” to “tiger queen”, Printfresh has sleepwear sets, nightdresses, and everything in between in an extended size range.

Their organic cotton pajamas are ethically made in a factory in Jaipur, India which is regularly audited by Sedex. Printfresh also uses efficient shipping methods to minimize their carbon emissions and uses recycled packaging materials.

2. Dagsmejan

Best for: temperature regulation for hot sleepers

Dagsmejan’s Balance collection pajamas are built specifically to solve one problem: temperature regulation while you sleep. The brand’s NATTWELL fabric, made from beechwood fibers, is engineered to be 6x more breathable and 4x better at wicking moisture than cotton, so you stay in what they call your “climatic comfort zone” all night. I tried a pair myself, and was comfortable throughout the night, even in one of the hottest weeks in summer. The set was super soft, even more so than my cotton pajamas, and the loose fit allowed for additional breathability.

The beechwood fiber is sourced from responsibly-managed forests in Austria, spun into yarn in Germany in a ISO-certified process, and the garments are sewn in Portugal and Romania under BSCI Code of Conduct standards. The fabric mill is also STeP-certified for sustainable textile production.

Price Range: $$ – $$$
Size Range: XS – 2XL
Based in: Switzerland (ships globally)

3. tentree

Best for: loungewear with a low carbon footprint

Fashionable loungewear that’ll make you want to stay in your cozy threads all day long, tentree’s versatile range of lounge sets will keep you comfy no matter the season.

From organic cotton French terry hoodies to insulated tree fleece sweatpants, these loungewear sets don’t compromise on comfort. Proceed with caution! Because once you slip into their cozy sets, you may never want to leave your home.

What’s more? The feel good factor of their clothes runs a lot deeper than just the feel of their fabrics against your skin. Tentree plants 10 trees for every item bought and allows you to track the positive impact your purchase has made.

Price Range: $$
Size Range: XS–XL
Based in: Canada (ships internationally)

4. Harvest & Mill

Best for: undyed organic cotton options

Harvest & Mill creates basics from organic cotton that’s been grown and milled in the United States. Which, trust me — as someone who works with founders day in and day out: this is a challenging feat to accomplish.

Each garment is sewn responsibly in the California Bay Area and you can choose between undyed and unbleached cotton or options colored with natural dyes — meaning this is organic loungewear that meets even the strictest standards for responsibility and chemical sensitivities.

Price Range: $-$$
Size Range: Women’s XS – XL | Men’s S – XL

5. MATE The Label

Best for: loungewear that actually flatters, not just fits

With the mission to provide people with “essentials that are clean from seed to skin”, MATE has sustainable loungewear made from materials like organic cotton and linen and colored with non-toxic dyes.

The woman-founded and women-run loungewear brand creates seasonless styles to last a lifetime right in Los Angeles, with most of their garments cut, sewn, and dyed within 15 miles of their headquarters.

Every piece I have from MATE is comfortable and made with exceptional quality.

6. PACT

Best for: affordable organic cotton sets

Certified organic, fair trade, and affordable — there’s a lot to love about PACT.

The GOTS-certified organic cotton loungewear and basics company has pieces for men, women, and kids. Many of their casual garments could easily be worn for sleeping or lounging, like their loose tees, cardigans, and lounge pants. While PACT is the more budget-friendly option on the list, it hasn’t washed as well as some of the other brands here, in my experience.

Price Range: $-$$
Size Range: XS – XXL

7. California Cloth Foundry

Best for: naturally dyed loungewear with zero synthetic finishes

California Cloth Foundry is a regenerative fashion brand using climate beneficial fibers, natural dyes sourced from plant-based materials like madder root and chestnuts, and clean non-toxic finishing agents.

I own a few pieces from this brand and everything is super soft and comfy — and if you wash the pieces with care (cool to cold water and air dry) the color holds up well, even with the botanical dyes.

Price Range: $-$$
Size Range: Custom sizing system (equivalent to US 2 – 12)
Based in: US

8. Poplinen

Best for: size-inclusive loungewear that celebrates every body

Poplinen is a Latina-owned small business with super soft eco-friendly loungewear crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton, Tencel, modal, and linen in Los Angeles, California.

With a manifesto to celebrate the female figure in all of its shapes and sizes, the brand’s sweatpants, sweatshirts, and other basics are all available in extended sizing from XS to 3XL. And that’s a mission I can stand behind.

Price Range: $$
Size Range: XS – 3XL

9. Coyuchi

Best for: classic-style pajamas in organic cotton

Coyuchi is another conscious label using organic cotton for their bedding, pajamas, and robes. I’ve admired Coyuchi for years, with their longstanding commitment to sustainability, and responsible sourcing. (They were the first brand to make organic cotton bedding.)

In addition to sourcing earth-first materials, the company also prioritizes vendors that have implemented sustainable processes such as water recycling, renewable energy, and waste reduction.

Price Range: $-$$
Size Range: XS – L

10. Kotn

Best for: Loungewear polished enough to wear for everyday

Canadian brand Kotn has ethical pajamas and sustainable loungewear made from 100% Egyptian cotton that are fairly made in Egypt using direct-trade practices.

The label’s pajamas are luxe and come in sophisticated hues — honestly, I would consider wearing them outside of the house, and I don’t typically consider that with loungewear! I own a cozy cotton mockneck from the brand that has become one of my go-to’s in winter.

Price Range: $
Size Range: XXS – XXL
Based in: Canada (Ships to US, Canada, and UK)
